I am an Atlanta based tutor who believes learning math is about much more than mastering content—it’s also about how students feel while they’re learning. Anxiety, frustration, stress, and self-doubt often show up in math class, and I see my role as blending content expertise with mentoring, coaching, and a little cheerleading.

My sessions are a supportive space where it’s okay to be unsure, make mistakes, and try again. I love helping students organize their thinking with color-coded notes (because yes, using markers really does make math more fun), humanizing mathematicians so math feels created by real people, and even calling equations “cute” or “sassy” when it helps ideas stick. My goal is always for students to leave feeling lighter, more confident, and supported.

Math has always felt like home to me. I earned undergraduate degrees in mathematics and biology from Emory University and a master’s degree in math education from the University of Georgia. After teaching in Fulton County schools, I transitioned to individual tutoring in 2013 when my daughter was born.  Since then, I’ve worked with hundreds of students across the U.S. and beyond, bringing both classroom experience and deep content knowledge to every session.

In addition to my tutoring work, I am deeply invested in supporting my local school community. As a former math teacher and a Howard Middle School parent, I use my daytime flexibility volunteering in support of Howard students and families. This work has included on-campus math instruction, curriculum development, and grant writing, as well as off-campus support such as writing family newsletters and creating middle school math resources for parents. I often encourage Howard families to reach out if they want a fellow parent and thinking partner when navigating math-related questions or decisions. More broadly, community involvement has always been an important part of my life. Over the years, I’ve volunteered with Atlanta-area food pantries and run a home-based nonprofit bakery whose proceeds funded more than 13,000 meals for Atlantans.

Whether I’m tutoring one-on-one, teaching a group class, or volunteering in the community, my work is grounded in the same belief: every student can grow as a mathematician when they feel supported, understood, and encouraged.

Education

2007

Education Specialist with Gifted Endorsement,

University of Georgia

An Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree is an advanced graduate degree that falls between a master’s degree and a doctoral degree in both scope and depth.

An Education Specialist degree with a Gifted Endorsement from the University of Georgia equips Arielle with advanced training in how students think, learn, and problem-solve—particularly in mathematics. This background helps her recognize patterns in student thinking, anticipate common misconceptions, and design instruction that is appropriately challenging without being overwhelming.

2007

Masters of Education,

University of Georgia

A master’s degree in education provides Arielle with a strong foundation in how students learn, not just what they learn. This training goes beyond content knowledge to include instructional design, assessment, differentiation, and strategies for supporting students with a wide range of learning needs.

For tutoring, this means Arielle is able to break down complex math concepts, anticipate where students may struggle, and adjust instruction in real time. Her background in education also supports effective lesson planning, clear explanations, and purposeful practice—helping students build understanding, confidence, and long-term success

2005

Bachelor of Science in Biology with second major in Mathematics,

Emory University

A major in mathematics from Emory University gives Arielle a deep and rigorous understanding of math beyond procedural steps. This strong content background allows her to see how topics connect across courses, explain why mathematical ideas work, and adapt explanations to meet students at different levels of understanding.

For tutoring, this means Arielle can move flexibly between big-picture concepts and step-by-step problem solving. She is able to anticipate common misconceptions, respond confidently to unexpected questions, and help students build a more coherent, meaningful understanding of math—whether they are mastering foundational skills or tackling advanced coursework.
